Pentax Lens Types + K Mount info
I’ve just finished typing the Pentax Lens Types page.
It offers a detailed look on all types of lenses you can use on your Pentax DSLR, which is actually every Pentax lens ever made, and more.
It’s meant to be an answer to the questions: “Can I use old lenses on my Pentax Digital SLR?”, “Which lenses can I use on my DSLR?”, “How will the lenses work?”

I recently acquired a Pentax K1000 with a SMC Pentax 1:2 55mm lens (serial # 1688426). I would like to use this lens on my Pentax K100D. I understand that I can — but am not sure how it should be used. Is this lens what is known as A series lens. Do I need to set my K100D to manual exposure setting or can I use it on automatic?

I take it you mean this lens?
It is part of the K-series, the first K-mount lenses Pentax produced, and the first ones explained on the Pentax Lens Types page.
Look under: 1. K Mount - “K” or “M” lenses, it is explained how to use it there. The camera will need to be in “M” mode.
